What are Ocean Nutrition Brine Shrimp Eggs?

Artemia nauplii (baby brine shrimp) are known to be one of the ideal live foods for the first stages of many marine fish and invertebrates. Ocean Nutrition Brine Shrimp Eggs in Sea Salt Premix is the perfect mix of Brine Shrimp Eggs and sea salt, no scales or measuring is required. Simply add fresh water, aerate vigorously and you are ready to start hatching nauplii.

These premixes come available for 1 litre (28g sea salt and 2g of Artemia Cysts) or 2 litres of water (47g sea salt and 3g of Artemia Cysts). Ocean Nutrition’s innovative Nitro Pak packaging also ensures a great hatch percentage rate of more than 90%.

Key features:

  • No need to weigh or measure
  • Pre-mixed sea salt and eggs
  • Easy to hatch
  • 90% hatch rate
  • Available in 2 sizes
  • Designed for 1-2 litres of water (Depending on size)

What accessories are recommended to use with these eggs?

To successfully hatch Artemia cysts you will also need  (cone-shaped works best), air supply, heating and a thermometer.

How do you hatch brine shrimp eggs?

  1. The room the hatchery is in should be between 21-30°C.
  2. Add the correct amount of tap water based on the package size.
  3. Place an airline inside the cone so the opening nearly touches the bottom.
  4. Connect the other end to a small aquarium air pump and adjust the flow until you have a stream of bubbles rising.
  5. Make sure to keep your air pump higher than the hatchery to avoid back siphoning
    Add the package of eggs.
  6. Allow the eggs to soak for 1 hour.
  7. After this, push the eggs which will likely rise to the surface back into the water
When it is time to harvest and feed the brine shrimp to your fish, you can remove the airline.
  8. Use a light source (which the brine shrimp will follow) to guide them to the bottom of the cone.
  9. Siphon only the orange-coloured brine shrimp from the bottom, do not siphon any hatched shells.
  10. Rinse the brine shrimp with tap water in your shrimp net (which needs to be suspended in a glass of water).
  11. Feed to your fish.
